Other members of the band, and close fans, will know that Nevla likes a good chilli.
So gentle listeners, in order to spread the joy here is Nevla's own tried and tested recipe.
Black Bean Death Chilli
Feeds: A small army (or about 4 very hungry people)
Preparation time - 10 mins
Cooking time - 40-45 minutes
INGREDIENTS:
500g extra lean steak mince (preferably organic)[1]
1 large onion - chopped
3 cloves garlic - finely sliced
1 red birds-eye chilli - finely chopped
1 red pepper- chopped into small cubes
1 tin of Epicure black beans - rinsed and drained[2]
2 tins of good quality chopped tomatoes
About 50ml water
A bit of tomato puree
Chilli powder
Cumin
Paprika
Dried oregano
Creme Fraiche or soured cream
The serving method of your choice (I'd reccomend baked potatoes)
RECIPE:
1) In a big saute pan (or large saucepan) dry fry the beef, the onion and the garlic until the beef is browned.
2) Add the diced pepper and chilli, and fry for a further 2 minutes
3) Add 2 heaped TSP of chilli powder, 1 TSP of cumin, 1 TSP of paprika and 2 TSP dried oregano and mix well.
4) Add the two tins of tomatoes (rinsing the tins out with the water and adding that too) and the black beans and stir well. Bring to the boil.
5) Add a TBSP or so of tomato puree and stir well.
6) Continue to let it bubble away for about 30 mins (i like to half-cover it for the first half, then uncover it to thicken for the second half) stirring regulary
7) Serve with rice, or even better on a jacket potato, with a blob of creme fraiche (or soured cream) and some ground sea salt on top, along with a large glass of Austrailian Shiraz
8) Slouch on the sofa for an hour complaining about having eaten too much, while finishing off the wine bottle
[1] For our american viewers, this is "ground beef"
[2] Of course, and tin of Black beans is okay. I was just trying to be posh. For a more "traditional" chilli you could just use kidney beans
